As a small, independent literacy nonprofit, we are uniquely positioned to make your generosity go further.

Because we work directly in early childhood centers, elementary schools, out-of-school-time programs, and community spaces, your support builds lasting capacity where it matters most.

Here's how your gift works harder with R2S:

  • $1 becomes $33.01 in value. In North Carolina, the economic impact of a volunteer hour is $33.01. Our trained volunteer tutors collectively serve over 800 hours a year, multiplying the impact of every dollar invested in their training and support.
  • No-cost literacy training. Literacy trainings cost $60+ per person—but thanks to donors like you, we can provide them at no cost to early childhood staff, afterschool counselors, and other youth educators. Your gift equips dozens of professionals each year with the tools to support young readers more effectively.
  • Early childhood classroom relief. When our Storytime Specialists and volunteers enter early childhood classrooms, they not only deliver joyful, evidence-based literacy instruction—they also free up teachers to give individualized attention to children who need it most.
  • Local economic impact. Each year, we reinvest more than $20,000 in local BIPOC-owned businesses through meaningful jobs, book purchases, author partnerships, and community events. Your gift directly strengthens the fabric of our community.
  • Stronger out-of-school time programs. Our team recruits, hires, and supervises out-of-school-time literacy instructors—so partner afterschools and summer camps don’t have to. This ensures children receive high-quality reading support whenever and wherever they are, preventing learning loss and easing the burden on community organizations.
  • A workplace that models equity. We are a Living Wage Certified employer, offering benefits to all staff—full-time and part-time alike—because we know that strong, supported staff create stronger outcomes for children.

Give Through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
If you’re 70½ years old or older, an IRA charitable rollover is a great option to lower your income taxes while doing good for others.
  • QCDs count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (up to $100,000)
  • ​The amount of your gift is excluded from your reported income for federal income tax purposes - your gift is 100% tax free!​
  • Most importantly - your gift may be used immediately to support Read to Succeed Asheville/Buncombe

Give an Appreciated Asset(s)
If you wish to make a gift to support R2S this year but are concerned about preserving your cash resources, consider a gift of an appreciated asset like stock or real estate.
