How Organizations Can Give To and Receive Books From R2S

At Read 2 Succeed, we believe that books should be in constant motion—getting into the hands of more children and families to build a vibrant literacy learning ecosystem. We invite schools, community organizations, and businesses to join us in this effort by donating new or like-new books or requesting books to distribute to the young readers they serve. Every book that finds a new home helps foster a love of reading and ensures more children have access to the stories and knowledge they deserve. Together, we can expand book access and spark lifelong learning in our community.

The Types of Books We Accept:
You can help to make a difference in our community and share the joy of book ownership by donating new and like-new culturally-responsive books to R2S for children from birth through elementary school.

What Is Culturally-Responsive?

Guidelines to support your collection of titles:
  • Books featuring BIPOC protagonists
  • Books written by BIPOC authors and/or illustrated by BIPOC artists
  • Generally, content is culturally supportive of students (e.g., validates students’ cultural identities; includes issues and perspectives from a shared cultural background; readings about the cultures of the students)
  • Generally, content is affirming, not about civil rights, slavery, or overcoming injustice
  • Generally, content is affirming, not on degradation and endurance of BIPOC people

How to Donate
  • If you are delivering a donation of books in person, note that our office is in the Pisgah View Apartments Community (Unit 16a on Stewart St. near the corner of Stewart & Granada). Please email [email protected] to schedule a time with R2S staff for a delivery.
  • We cannot receive mailed packages to our physical office location. If you are mailing a donation of books, please email [email protected] for a staff mailing address.

Want a Donation of Books From R2S?

The Types of Books We Donate:
R2S donates new and used books to community partners in Asheville and Buncombe County; books include culturally-responsive and general (animal, nonfiction, non-BIPOC, etc.) titles that are recirculated from donations given to us.

How Many Books Can My Organization Receive?
Depending on the request, R2S can donate 25 - 50 children's books (birth thru 12th grade) quarterly throughout the year.

How Can I Set Up a Pick-up or Delivery of Books From R2S?
Email [email protected] to request a pick-up of books for your organization or we can schedule a delivery (location and staff capacity permitting).
