Salary: $36,500

Position Summary
Reports to:  Learning & Engagement Manager
An integral member of the R2S team, the K-3 Literacy Coordinator assists the Learning and Engagement Manager (Manager) in K-3 literacy program implementation, including scheduling and training volunteers and interns; maintaining community partnerships and communication strategies; performing student intakes and matching of students with tutors; conducting student assessments, tracking student and tutor data, tracking budget expenditures for instructional materials and curricula; and providing ongoing support to tutors and students.
                       
Responsibilities
Programming
  • Assist in the development and implementation of  a comprehensive, culturally responsive literacy curriculum and training program  
  • In collaboration with R2S staff, assist Manager with aspects related to the creation of online volunteer trainings/courses, including instructional design, digital and printable training materials, video recordings, and distribution via an online learning platform and the R2S Data Portal
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of developmentally appropriate, culturally-responsive learning environments that nurture children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development
  • Assist in student intakes and matching of students with tutors, as well as the design,  administration and analysis of student assessments
  • Actively collaborate with R2S staff to design and implement tools, programs, and presentations directly related to our mission
  • Assist in maintaining participant records and program data in the R2S Data Portal
  • Actively seek and maintain current knowledge of literacy standards, as well as culturally responsive curriculum, methodologies, best practices, and trends

Supervision and Support
  • Assist Manager in assigning, training, observing, and supporting literacy tutors
  • Participate in regular staff and volunteer meetings
  • Work with R2S staff to maintain volunteer resources on the R2S Data Portal
  • Actively participate in R2S program activities and recognition events

Collaboration
  • Partner with families to support children’s learning and respond to family concerns and feedback with sensitivity and respect. Practice open, regular, and respectful communication with families using a variety of methods, including e-mail, texts, phone calls, notes, and flyers
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with relevant ACS and BCS personnel to ensure proper selection and matching of students to the R2S program
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with community partners (i.e., HACA personnel, PODS, Children First, Literacy Council, Youthful HAND, Open Doors, etc.) and families R2S serves
  • Actively seek local and regional partnerships to develop, evaluate and promote culturally relevant literacy methodologies and programming
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization in the community

  • Provide monthly reports for the Board of Directors meetings
  • Attend community meetings that support R2S
  • Represent R2S as a speaker to community organizations
  • Participate in professional development that advances the R2S mission
  • Ensure that the R2S office is run efficiently and securely and serve as a liaison with HACA for service issues         

Qualifications
Education - Bachelor’s degree required in Education, Child Development, or related field

Experience
  • 3+ years’ experience providing education or social services to young children (0-5 yrs, K-3rd) and/or families
  • Skilled and efficient with basic computer operating systems and software.  Proficient in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.), Zoom, and Google Meet. Willing to explore and adopt innovative technology solutions. Previous experience with basic database management preferred
  • Demonstrates cultural competency regarding the issues of education and access and has the ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people of color
  • Ability to relate effectively with children, families, community members, and staff
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with other community agencies
  • Interest and ability to advocate with low-income, diverse families
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of culturally-responsive teaching strategies
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends

Status:
Exempt - Full Time
Supervision -  N/A

Ergonomics:  Sitting, bending, stooping, standing, 15% repetitive keyboard work, seeing, verbal communications, lift up to 25 pounds.
