May 3, 2021
Dear R2S Community,
I'm reaching out today with some bittersweet news. For personal reasons, I must wrap up my time with Read to Succeed Asheville/Buncombe, and Jess McLean will be the Interim Executive Director starting May 9, 2021.
I'm excited for R2S to continue the incredible work we have put in place this past school year with a laser focus on equity and a much-needed shift in our approach to reading instruction that aligns with the science of reading and school curricula. As you know, Jess has played an integral role in this process and is well-positioned to move the organization forward. She is working closely with our Board of Directors, staff, and community partners to ensure continuity in our training and programming.
On a personal note, it has been my privilege to connect with our volunteers and to experience Read to Succeed’s dedication, passion, and commitment to children in our community.
As Carley mentioned in our Literacy 101 training, it takes an army of well-trained individuals who know their students’ needs and how to meet those needs which will make the difference in supporting children in learning to read. I know that R2S will continue to be a meaningful force in our community, working to close the opportunity gap through literacy programming.
Although I am leaving Read to Succeed, I will remain in Asheville. I look forward to seeing you all around and staying a fervent supporter of Read to Succeed for years to come. Thank you for the honor of serving as your Executive Director.
Sincerely,
Jamie Creola
