As winter break envelops us in its festive atmosphere, the excitement of learning doesn't have to fade away. Fear not! R2S has curated a list of 5 super cool winter break reading tips for both you and your little ones to enjoy. Get ready to embark on a literary adventure that will make this winter break both fun and educational! 1.) Winter Reading Challenge Buncombe County families, from December 1, 2023 to March 1, 2024, drop by any Buncombe County Public Library to grab an a winter reading activity sheet designed for kids or teens. Complete ten activities, return the sheet for a snowflake sticker or wintry pencil, and enter for a chance to win countywide prizes. Kids could score a reading buddy stuffed animal, and teens have the chance to win an LED paper lantern book lamp for cozy winter nights. 2.) Snow Letter Trace Writing letters in the snow can be an educational and enjoyable activity that combines motor skill development, literacy reinforcement, creativity, and an appreciation for the natural world. Kids can go outside and trace letters in the snow with their feet, hands, stick, you name it! 3.) Snowflake Story Writing Have kids create their own unique snowflakes out of paper. On each snowflake, they can write a sentence or a short story. Connect the snowflakes to make a winter-themed story garland. 4.) Letter to a Winter Character Have kids handwrite a letter to a winter character from a book they love or create their own winter character from their imagination. Daily Winter Reading Time This last tip requires nothing more than a good book, a warm blanket, and maybe a good cup of cocoa.
